Barefoot River Lodge is idyllically located amidst the breath-taking African Bushveld.
The Waterberg mountains make a spectacular backdrop to the majestic Phalala river that flows past the lodge. The tranquil flow of the river is hypnotic. You can enjoy abundant birds and wildlife with various other fauna and flora right at your doorstep. Occasionally you might see hippos and crocs passing by the lodge. River Lodge is built in harmony with its surroundings, with an iconic thatch roof and stone walls.
Clients have their own private chalet with an-suite bathroom. Each Chalet is overlooking the river. Clients are spoiled with the natural beauty on the outside while you have all the luxuries on the inside.
African Barefoot Safaris is blessed to call this home to our clients hunting in South Africa. It takes about 3.5 hours travel time to get out of the city and into the hidden gem between the Waterberg mountains.
The lodge makes use of clean well water and is completely equipped with solar power and backup generators.
Free WIFI in the main area makes it easy to keep in touch with your friends and family.

The communal outside area of the lodge includes the swimming pool, patio, BBQ area, beautiful gardens, walkways and the bar.

The open-air fire pit is the perfect place to end a thrilling day of hunting. Blessed to sit under the bright Southern cross with the Milky way lighting up the African sky.
Your senses will be awakened as we BBQ a perfect Kudu or Impala fillet on the open fire. Perfectly grilled over the indigenous red bush or ironwood coals.
The enclosed main area is perfectly designed for comfort, while still experiencing the spectacular view of the outside.
Cold winter nights are nice and cozy in the main lodge with the built-in fireplace.
For those warm summer days, the air conditioning keeps it cool and comfortable.
All meals are served in the main area. We love treating our clients to some of the best local cuisine.
Barefoot River lodge is ideal for an individual hunter, groups or families. We have ample space to make sure each client has a wonderful stay.
Each room is comfortably designed with a plush bed, a vanity with a hairdryer and a stocked personal coffee station. You will be treated to fresh linen, towels and our high-quality amenities for the duration of your stay. You will also have the convenience of a heater or air conditioning to keep the room at your desired temperature. The rooms are equipped with a USA/South African adaptor plug for your convenience and use.
The lodge offers 7 loos standing chalets. Three of these chalets are to the west of the main lodge and four to the east. Each of these chalets have 2 private but interconnecting rooms. All the rooms have its own private en-suite bathroom.
The rooms are furbished with a plush queen bed with luxury linen or two single beds perfect for families or single hunters.
The four large family rooms are specious and can comfortably host a family of four. You will find a warm and welcoming king bed and two single beds in each room. These units are well planned with a family size en-suite bathroom.
Barefoot River Lodge also offers two units with easy access from the entrance and is located conveniently close to the main lodge.
Included in your stay is daily laundry services. There is no need to travel with heavy bags nor to pack for 10 days. We’ve got you covered.

Breakfast usually consists of a continental option, toast, yogurts, fruits and cereal. Hot breakfast is served daily that consists of a combination of the following: Tomatoes, Mushrooms, Bacon, Mince, Sausages, Eggs and Baked Beans. For the sweet tooth we also have French toast, Muffin and Flapjacks on the menu.
Bowhunters can focus completely on their hunt as we supply a full lunchbox that includes your lunch, snacks, fresh fruit, water and soft drinks.
Sharing some the best African cuisine with our clients creates more lifetime memories. Potjie- food and Bobotie are two very popular and famous South African dishes. You can also expect Game Burgers, Pies and Stew. Each meal offers fresh fruit and a large variety of vegetables. Our dessert menu will not disappoint, desserts like Milktart and Peppermintcrisp tart are always crowd pleasers.
The highlight of each meal will always be the clean meat harvested by the hunters.
We can also cater to specific dietary requirements. Please make sure to inform the Lodge a month prior to your arrival, if possible.
We highly recommend pairing the game meat with local wines. South Africa is world renowned for some of our wines. The most famous wines include Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinotage for our red wine lovers. For those who enjoy the white wines, look out for a Chenin Blanc or Sauvignon Blanc.
The bushveld has many jewels to enjoy while on safari. Even our Coke-Cola taste better. Make sure to try Amarula, a smooth and fruity local liqueur made from the fruits of the Marula Tree, or any of our very popular local beers.
